Editor's note

Our children – our future

You just know that the mad rush towards the end of the year is about to start when matrics bid their school years farewell and when schools start with their prize-giving ceremonies.

With that said, I have to pause at the different prize-giving ceremonies. When looking at the photographs of these young achievers, those in primary and high school, proudly displaying their certificates and trophies, bright-eyed with huge smiles, you realise that contrary to what so many people say – our youth is NOT lost forever.

This will also ring true when other learners receive their final marks at the end of the year, even though they did not make it to the top ten of the school – they will know that they have done their best, that they are moving forward to another grade and that they are slowly but surely climbing the school ladder to become young adults entering the work force in years to come. They too will be greeted by hugs and kisses from parents celebrating the fruits of another year of hard work.

To all our learners, we want to say – congratulations and keep up the good work. This year is almost done and dusted so hang in there.

Don’t ever forget that you are our future – the hope of this country.

And last but not least, allow me to leave the upcoming young adults of our community with the following: “What the future holds for us, depends on what we hold for the future. Hard working todays make high-winning tomorrows.” – William E Holler

*We are therefore inviting all schools to forward the results and photographs of their award winners to us as soon as possible. These can be send to cvdwalt@caxton.co.za – and the same will apply as we will soon be awaiting the matric results and the pass rates to be made public.
