“Entertainer” passes away

Joy Violet Yates-Hossell passed away suddenly on Wednesday September 10. She was a grand lady of 88 years old.

JOHANNESBURG – Music was the life force in Joy’s life and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was the pianist for the Louise Lombard School of Ballet for about ten years and also played the piano for many years at the Avril Elizabeth Home and Doug Whitehead School giving much pleasure to the young people living there.

Joy belonged to a group called The Entertainers headed by the late John Fleming and this group sang in nearly all of the old age homes around Johannesburg.

In 1994 she moved to Muizenberg to be with her two daughters Melody and Dianne and once more, there were musicals she played for and concerts she arranged.

Joy was a very active woman in her old age, attending the 80th Birthday tea of Jean Moore, also well known in the South on the Friday before she died. She read all the time and played a good game of scrabble.

She will be greatly missed!
