Toddlers found locked up in suspected drug den

Squatters say prostitution house and operating drug den is their home and they shouldn't be evicted.

LINMEYER – Squatters illegally occupying a house in Linmeyer cried foul as a Sheriff of the court enforced an order to evict them on October 7.

As they voiced their concerns and allegations about court officials and SAPS receiving bribes to execute the eviction, none of the squaters dared say anything about a shocking discovery by Linmeyer CPF.

Two children, estimated one and a half and four years old, were found in a room secured by a burglar gate and locked door. The children appeared to be hungry and dehydrated; one of the children spotted had a burn wound on his foot.

The children were taken into the care of concerned police officers, who provided the children with food and drink, before notifying child services about them and the horrifying conditions they were found in.

Their father was arrested by police for negligence, although an old woman who had approached police claiming the children were hers, was found to be lying about her claim.

For some time Linmeyer residents have known a house on South Rand Road and Martha Street to be a busy brothel and drug den operated by unknown Nigerians. These Nigerians were seen escaping with bags through windows into a white Mercedes which was parked nearby.

When the house in question was put on auction by the bank and subsequently sold to a property investor known to the South, they breathed a sigh of relief.

That was when the Sheriff of the court requested the help of SAPS and Linmeyer CPF with the eviction. According to officials, the squatters were given a grace period of six months to evict the property. The application of eviction started six months ago.

The house is legally built to be a five-bedroom house; however, the hijacker collecting rent had partitioned various rooms including the garage and turned it into an estimated 16-bedroom house.

A shack occupied by a couple was found in the backyard and it appeared that the lapa was also occupied by squatters.
