Crime tips which may assist in keeping you safe
When hiring a person to work as a domestic, gardener, or staff member in your home or business, for security purposes it’s requested you take the person down to the police station for police clearance (there is a small cost involved of R59). Please get the person's permission first.
SOUTH OF JOHANNESBURG – It is also advisable to check out all references. If the domestic you are thinking of hiring doesn’t have references think twice about hiring him/her. It’s always good idea to get a copy of their SA ID or passport. The person who is looking for work often seems to use the excuse that their previous employer has moved to the coast or out of SA. Let’s all protect our families from people who commit crime.
* Women, please be extra vigilant while doing your grocery shopping. Take note of who is around you. It’s been reported while shoppers are out doing their shopping, an African man posing as someone who needs help will come up to them to ask them about an item on a high shelf. While he keeps you busy two African women try and grab your belongings from you.
* Urgent Request: Please trim back overgrown trees and branches hanging over your boundary wall, that way it will not be easy for criminals to hide behind. As an extra security precaution please install extra lighting at the entrance of your property. Let’s all keep safe together.
* Street lights which aren’t working are a major concern in some areas. Please report all lights that are faulty 011 375 5555 or log on to City of Joburg website and log the fault on line.
