Stop street sign not adhered to

A stop street sign, corner of Lebombo Avenue and Osborn Street, Oakdene is a complete waste of time, said a resident of Lebombo Avenue, Oakdene.

OAKDENE – “I’ve hardly ever seen any driver adhere to this stop street sign, in fact most drive straight across it without even looking. It’s absolutely pointless it being there,” he said.

The Comaro CHRONICLE reporter stood at the intersection for 10 minutes and seven vehicles came through the stop street, with only one driver actually coming to a halt. Four never even slowed down and two slowed down but carried on driving.

  1. I believe this stop sign was put there by mistake years ago. It makes no sense to stop the traffic coming from the Glen and in fact the sign was removed and painted over with black paint a long time ago. Years later the paint had worn somewhat and someone must have come by and thought that was still supposed to be there, and promply put it back! None of the locals stop there, partly because one can clearly see if there is a car coming out of the very quiet Lebombo Road. I would like to see it removed again!

  2. People don’t stop at the stop street in Osborn Street because it is not supposed to be there. Many years ago it WAS a stop street, but when the street became busy, the stop was moved to Lebombo Avenue, which makes more sense as it is a quieter street. When a street sign painting team was sent out later, they merely repainted the faint outlines of the old stop street, which was painted over before, as well as the stop in Lebombo Avenue. Having to stop in Osborn Street makes no sense as there are rarely cars coming out of Lebombo and they have to stop anyway. Also, cars coming from the other direction in Osborn Street do not have to stop. What’s the use of a one-way stop street?

  3. The last time I stopped there was for an old lady driving out of Lebombo and she would drive off ahead of me, she instead gave me an earful for stopping there!
