Condolences to the Kourie family

The community have sent in their condolences to the Kourie family.

My deepest sympathy to all the family on the loss of a wonderful, kind, older brother, husband, father and grandfather.

I regarded Clement as another brother when I was in Mondeor.  He and I quite frequently had lovely long chats just sitting in the combi (after Sunday Mass) either outside the convent or we were outside their house before going in to a lovely meal Pat had or was preparing. Once in the house, Pat and I spent the time chatting in the kitchen and Clem got no word in. Bev and Jen arrived with hubbies and Jen’s little one. Brian was at home at the time, such a pleasant family gathering on those Sundays.  Strength, love and prayers go to you all. Sister Melvina at Holy Cross Booysens

* It is with sadness that we see Clem leaving us to go on with his journey to the Lord. It is with joy in faith that we see him being welcomed by the Lord.

His departure from us all will be felt whenever we remember what he always tried to tell us, that the word of God is all we need to lead us to eternal life.

It is in his faith that we see the importance and graces we receive when we join with Jesus at the banquet table of the Holy Eucharist. It is his belief in the Gospel that leads us to be faithful to Jesus and the Father and to do the will of the Father no matter where it takes us. His example of life is to live it to the full, but remember to listen to the Holy Spirit as God speaks to us. Victor

* We were taken aback and very sad to hear about Clem’s passing.  During the past number of years Clem was a great inspiration to us as we observed the development of Klip Rivier Mountain Conservancy now KlipSA with appreciation.

Although we are a conservancy that is situated in KwaZulu Natal north East Coast, alongside the Isimangaliso Wetland Park World Natural Heritage Site, I grew up in Alberton and the Klip River together with the “Meyers Koppies” which remain a very special place to me. Without television in those days, our free time and interest extended to those lovely natural areas and many days were spent hiking and enjoying the river and mountain together with our young crowd of friends.
It was with amazement that we heard of the establishment of the KlipSA.  Clem’ s vision together with those who were also inspired to protect the Klip River natural environment, was born and developed with dedication and timeless commitment and we have observed with awe from afar, how the movement has grown.
Clem has left behind a legacy that has far reaching ripples! His inspiration will live on in KlipSa’s development and through the protection and love of nature that it inspires. We wish Clem’s family and friends, the Peace of the Lord.  Janet Cuthbertson

* On behalf of the Baobab Hiking Club I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Mr Clem Kourie, his friends, colleagues and associates.

The sterling work he did for the Southern Suburb especially the Klipriversberg Nature Reserve, is a testament to the man’s character, commitment, drive and love of the area and of nature.

We will always be indebted to him for the sterling work he did at the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve. He will also be remembered for having all the hills, in the Southern Suburbs preserved and declared a conservancy, something unheard of in the middle of a metropolitan area. A true testament to his commitment to nature conservation.

I hope that there will some form of recognition given to him for his work there by naming a trail or a section of the reserve after him. Anver Barthis

* We are sad to hear the news of Clem’s death. I think of these words from T.S. Eliot’s ‘Little Gidding’ often. Perhaps they may be of some consolation: ‘And what the dead had no speech for, when living, They can tell you, being dead: the communication
Of the dead is tongued with fire beyond the language of the living.’  We wait, all of us, in the promise of Christ.  Dom, Maria and Christopher

* It is with such shock that I heard of your dad’s passing from Lea. I would like to express sincere condolences to you and your family. As Lea has said if it was not for Clem, Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve would not be where it is today.

He was the giant behind sustaining and guarding it. My words of praise seem so inadequate but I am sure everyone recognises what he has done. Blessings to you and your family in this time of loss.  Margaret West
