Road rage shootout leaves biker dead

A biker who sparked the shootout in a road rage incident on Friday February 14 was killed by the driver of another vehicle in Johannesburg.

JOHANNESBURG – When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene on Friday February 14, they found that one man had tragically lost his life and another man was in a serious condition following the incident.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said, “The man was treated on scene before he was transported to hospital for further medical care.”

According to Times Live, “Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, of the Douglasdale Police Station said that the incident began on the slipway of Witkoppen towards Malibongwe 150-200m away from the shooting.”

Muthan was quoted to have said, “The motorcyclist could not pass a certain vehicle and then began ranting and raving.”

He said the motorcyclist stopped in front of the car and began shooting at the driver. The driver shot back killing the rider.

According to eyewitness, Jedde Kasamba, “A white man on a motorbike stopped in front of the car and started shooting at an older black man who then ducked down for his gun and shot back.

“He [the motorist] then stopped traffic officers who were passing by and handed over both firearms to the officers and began explaining what happened”.

Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said “A case of murder has been opened for investigation by Honeydew police.”

The suspect was released from hospital and is in police custody. He will be charged with murder in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s court on Monday.
