Funeral arrangements for Mandela announced
President Jacob Zuma declared December 8 to 15 a week of mourning. During this time memorial services will be held in all provinces.
JOHANNESBURG – Former President Nelson Mandela will be accorded a state funeral and will be laid to rest on December 15 in Qunu, in the Eastern Cape.
Moneyweb reported, “Zuma was announcing the government’s plans for the funeral and the week of mourning on Friday afternoon, from the SABC studios in Auckland Park.”
Sunday December 8 will be a national day of prayer and reflection. Zuma called on people to gather in places of worship and homes and hold prayer services and mediation, reflecting on Madiba’s life and contribution to SA and the world.
“We should all work together to organise a fitting funeral for this outstanding son, and the father of our nation,” said Zuma.
The official memorial service will be held on December 10 at FNB Stadium in Soweto. His body will be lying in state at the Union Buildings on December 11 and 12.
