Badminton girls win All Africa champs

Alberton badminton puts South Africa on top.

Alberton High School sent four matric students, Kirsty Correia, Jade Henning, Kiara Jaskolka and Melinda Jaskolka, to the Badminton All Africa Schools Championship in Senegal.

The tournament took place in August.

The four girls represented South Africa and won gold at the team event. They also lifted the trophy for the best school team in Africa.

Alberton High supported the team in getting to the championships along with the Alberton Badminton Club, where the team began playing.

The players will also receive their national colours for badminton. Team captain Melinda Joskolka spoke about her journey in badminton and her plans for the future.

“I have been playing for five years, since primary school. Now that I have played as a junior, I would like to coach or continue playing as a senior,” Melinda said.
