Six suspects arrested for cable theft by the JMPD four years ago were sentenced on August 20.

In a display of vigilance and dedication, a JMPD officer foiled a cable theft operation on September 17, 2020, leading to an arrest. While travelling on Rifle Range Road, the officer noticed a suspicious white Isuzu bakkie and followed it.

After a few minutes, the officer stopped the car, searched it, and found many cables in the back.

The driver had no satisfactory explanation, and three additional suspects attempted to flee the scene. With backup from fellow officers, they arrested all the suspects for theft.

The docket was assigned to Warrant Officer Mofonwa Rangwanasha for investigation, and after completing the necessary paperwork, the case proceeded to court.

The outcome was successful, with four suspects sentenced to 10 years of direct imprisonment, one receiving a 15-year sentence, and another avoiding trial.

The Booysens SAPS station commander, Brigadier Jones, thanked the officers involved, praising their dedication and commitment to justice.

This incident highlights the JMPD’s tireless efforts to combat crime and protect the community.
