Mondeor SAPS partners with churches to combat crime

Religious institutions joined forces with law enforcement to tackle social ills in Mondeor precinct, starting a new chapter in community engagement and crime prevention.

The Mondeor SAPS recently convened a divine intervention meeting in the station commander’s boardroom to establish a structure that would engage local churches in community-driven initiatives.

According to Sergeant Elizabeth Mnguni, a Mondeor Social Crime Prevention officer, the meeting drew representatives from various stakeholders, including Social Crime Prevention, Faithways Mission, and several local churches such as Confirmed Church, Imagine Church, and Adonile Church.

“The meeting’s primary objective was to form a divine intervention structure capable of mobilising churches within the Mondeor precinct to address societal issues collaboratively. Through a unified approach, the structure aims to leverage the influence and resources of religious institutions in fostering positive change in the community.

“Key stakeholders outlined their commitment to combating social ills and expressed eagerness to engage with local churches. Churches interested in participating were encouraged to contact the newly formed structure for further information and involvement,” said Mnguni.

The meeting’s outcome saw the structure established, comprising prominent figures from participating churches.

They are apostle Ingrid Norje, chairperson (083 291 5841); pastor Thandiwe Radebe, deputy chairperson (078 0094275); pastor Elias Mabotsa, secretary (082 820 9789;) and pastor Glisson Niekerk, administrator ( 073 740 1657).

Mnguni said the appointed individuals will lead efforts to co-ordinate activities, facilitate communication, and mobilise resources in the community to address prevalent issues effectively.
