Forum steps up to help clean pensioner’s yard in Booysens

The spirit of Ubuntu prevails in helping a pensioner.

Booysens’ pensioner Maria Celeste Beraira had her yard cleaned up thanks to the local members of Winners Business Forum.

She was pleased with the work they did in her yard. Maria will now manage to go outside her yard with ease after the overgrown grass was cut.

Victor Malatjie from the forum said they helped disadvantaged people in the area. “Old people and the youth who are idling in the streets are some of our priorities. We want to find solutions for drug addicts and get them job opportunities. We want to make sure they are useful in the community and try to get them driver’s licences.

“We also engage local training centres which provide trades like plumbing, welding and other skills to help us after they identified youth in need. Also, local informal trading businesses will benefit when they get proper registration which will curb the selling of expired goods to the public,” explained Malatjie.

Also from the forum, Godfrey Maepa added that they go around the area scouting potential people and houses they can help. “When you go around you can spot an abandoned house or a house where a pensioner lives. You see an unkempt yard and that’s where we come in,” he said.

They said with Bereira, they now need to get paint, ceiling, putty for windows, roof paint and waterproofing so that they can fix her house. Any good Samaritan can contact their chairperson John Dlomo on 063 343 2383.
