Cable thief arrested in New Redruth

In the early hours of November 9, a male suspect was nabbed by Alberton SAPS officers and is expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

A foreign national was found in possession of telecommunication cables suspected to be illegally cut and ready for collection at the corner of Penzance and Trelawny streets in New Redruth on November 9.

The suspect was confronted, questioned and informed of his arrest and constitutional rights.

According to Alberton SAPS Captain Manare Ramotshela, the person in question is at the Alberton SAPS holding cells to be charged.

The telecommunication cables seized.

“The stolen cables were confiscated and will be taken to the lawful owner as soon as the police are done with their job. The suspect will be taken to the local court of law for bail applications. The station commander welcomed this swift reaction of all those who made it possible to arrest the alleged culprit,” he said.

He pleaded with members of the community to continue to be the eyes and ears of the men and women in blue.

“It’s always through the assistance of the community that SAPS can bring culprits to a standstill. Men and women in blue are always ready for action,” Ramotshela said.
