WATCH: Over 20 days without water, Joburg south residents take to the streets

Residents in areas in the south of Joburg have been without water for over 20 days and there is no indication when their taps will be flowing again.

Residents of South Hills, Linmeyer, Oakdene, and the surrounding areas located just outside Johannesburg South, near Silver Ball, are facing a severe water crisis.

This dire situation has persisted for over 20 days, leaving the community frustrated and disheartened.

Sonia Santos, a concerned resident, expressed her dismay, emphasizing the prolonged period of water scarcity.

“We have now reached a point where we just had enough. It is shocking that our government does not listen to us,” she lamented.

Residents have taken proactive steps, making their grievances known to Rand Water, yet their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

“Rumors have circulated that water is available, but the valves remain tightly closed, exacerbating the plight of the affected community. Frustration has reached such heights that some residents are contemplating drastic actions, even considering the unthinkable – burning water trucks – in their desperate bid to access water from their taps,” said Santos.
