Police patrol recovers 2 unlicensed firearms in Alberton, 4 suspects arrested

The Crime Prevention Unit team intercepted the suspects’ vehicle in Alberton North and conducted a search.

Four suspects have been arrested after being found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and house-breaking implements in Alberton North on September 15.

According to SAPS Ekurhuleni district communication officer, Captain Nelda Sekgobela members of the Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling in Alberton North when they came across a black Honda Civic with four occupants.

“Upon searching the suspects, officers found a 38 special revolver with three live rounds of ammunition in possession of the driver and a 9 mm Pistol without rounds in possession of the crew, both firearms with serial numbers.”

Sekgobela said they found a crowbar, bolt cutter and balaclava In the boot.

“The 38 special revolver came out positive in the Boksburg North theft case of July 2023, while the Norinco came out positive in the Cleveland case of theft that occurred in June 2023,” said Sekgobela.

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole applauded the members for their swift response to ensure the safety of the residents in the District.
