Cyclists unite to make a difference for abused children

It's truly inspiring to see how Trap De Val brings the cycling community together to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need

The third annual Trap De Val 100 Miler (160 km) was held on May 27, and it was an incredible event that brought together cyclists from various clubs and rider communities.

The starting point was The Cycle Hub, located at Thaba Trials in Mulbarton, South of Johannesburg. The route took the riders to Val, the smallest hamlet/town in South Africa situated in Mpumalanga.

Throughout the journey, participants experienced the beautiful farmlands of Gauteng and Mpumalanga, passing by towns like Meyerton, Balfour, and Greylingstad.

The finish line awaited them at the Val Hotel, where riders and supporters were greeted with warm hospitality by Rita Britz, the owner of Val Hotel.

Trap De Val originated from a ride by three friends in 2020, and it quickly became an annual tradition.

The Teddy Bear Foundation was chosen as the charity of choice, as they support and heal children and families affected by abuse. This year, 115 riders participated.

In addition to the sense of accomplishment from completing the challenging 100-mile ride, riders also enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, exploring new places, and taking in scenic landscapes along the way.

At the Val Hotel, riders indulged in a delicious meal before participating in a prize-giving ceremony and auction event.

Dalene Bishop, the donor liaison officer from the foundation, extended her congratulations to all the riders and expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their generous contributions.

“Their support will go a long way in assisting the Teddy Bear Foundation’s vital work with abused children,” she said.
