Mondeor SAPS arrest two suspects for illegal firearm

Two suspects aged 27 and 31 were arrested by Mondeor SAPS after the vehicle was stopped on the M1 close to Southgate.

Officers from the Mondeor Police Station Trio Crime task force arrested two suspects for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition near Southgate on April 7.

A spokesperson for Mondeor Police Station, Capt Nokulunga Dube said: “The officers reportedly chased a vehicle with two occupants after they noticed suspicious-looking activity in the area. The suspects’ vehicle was shortly intercepted by the SAPS members on the M1 Freeway. A search led the members to recover ammunition and a firearm whereby the serial number was filed off.”

Station commander of Mondeor Police Station, Col JJ Bezuidenhout commended his members for the swift arrest and recovery.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests while further investigation is underway.
