Johannesburg Philarmonic Orchestra special spring concerts are back

The Johannesburg Philarmonic Orchestra (JPO) is thrilled to announce the return to live symphony concerts as they present the JPO Special Spring Concerts on October 28 and November 4 at the Linder Auditorium.

Both concerts will start at 19:30.

The recent relaxation of Covid regulations has allowed JPO to present live concerts, and they have put together an exciting programme that will feature highly acclaimed international and South African artists.

The two-week programme sees the return of popular conductor Daniel Boico (Israel/USA) for the first concert, with award-winning Russian pianist Georgy Tchaidze.

The evening begins with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1, followed by Karen LeFrak’s Gravity and Dvorak’s Symphony No 8 rounds off the programme.

The second concert, under the baton of celebrated German conductor Justus Frantz, features South Korean soloist Ye-Eun Choi, one of the world’s most in-demand violinists.

The programme opens with Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro: Overture, followed by Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No 3 also known as Eroica.

“The musicians are excited to be performing live again and are in terrific form, playing with finesse and sophistication,” said Bongani Tembe, chief executive and artistic director of JPO.

“Even at the height of Covid-related restrictions, the orchestra continued to stay in touch with the audience through Virtual Symphony Seasons and the online At Home with JPO series.

“This, coupled with our ongoing education concerts and videos, teaching at music schools and our hospital outreach programme, cements JPO’s commitment to bringing beautiful music to the City of Joburg.”

Seats for the JPO Special Spring Concerts are limited due to Covid-19 regulations, as reduced capacity audiences must be allowed in the venue.

To ensure the safety of patrons, access to the venue will only be allowed by providing proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test not older than 72 hours.

All other Covid-19 protocols will be observed and we encourage patrons to arrive at least an hour before the concert begins.

Patrons can also pre-book dinner at the restaurant alongside the venue by contacting JackieJanssens@gmail.com

Tickets are available through Quicket and will be sold at R250 per ticket throughout the venue.
