Two arrested after drugs worth R350k recovered in Winchester Hills

After receiving a tip-off on Saturday, officers from the JMPD K9 pounced on two alleged drug dealers.

Two suspects were arrested after Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department K9 officers received a tip-off of a White Volkswagen UP transporting drugs on Saturday evening, July 31.

The vehicle was travelling along Swartgoud Street towards Ridgeway.

Xolani Fihla, JMPD spokesperson said officers proceeded to the said location and spotted the vehicle matching the description of the lookout. They stopped the vehicle with two occupants inside, a male driver and a female passenger.

“The vehicle was searched and a brown ball containing nyaope (Heroin) was found at a rear seat,” he said.

Fihla further explained that officers questioned the suspects and took them to their apartment in Winchester Hills as they had reasonable grounds to believe that more drugs could be found.

During a search of the property, officers recovered drugs and money.

“Upon arrival at the suspect’s apartment, officers recovered different types of drugs including, mandrax, nyaope and crystal meth with an estimated value of R350 000 and R55 000 of cash.”

Both suspects were arrested and detained at Mondeor SAPS for possession of drugs and will appear in the Booysens Magistrates Court soon.
