Christina won Director’s Choice Award

In the Alberton area, Christina's main charity project was to provide masks, food, and clothes for people in need.

After going through a couple of traumatic events and losing four loved ones, Christina Pretorius from Alberton decided that a change in her life was needed.

“I was in a very dark place, but I had the urge to give back and to change the lives of others, to make a difference. I wanted to take back my authority,” she said.

Christina read about apprentesses, known as Sterstatus, through an advertisement on Facebook.

“Without any doubt, I entered,” she said.

Christina’s journey

“We had our first conference before lockdown in March. When I arrived there I was in a room full of these beautiful and well-dressed women. For a moment I felt lost between all these women,” said Christina.

She only found out at the conference that this will be a reality show and in her head, she wanted to back out, but something kept her there.

“This show taught me a lot. From choosing the appropriate outfits to wear to speaking in front of an audience or a video. It empowered me as a woman.

“My main reason for entering was to give back, and being a contestant of Sterstatus allowed me to do that.”
When a woman enters Sterstatus she forms part of the show’s local charity called Fabulous Girls Charity Foundation.

“Giving back to the community, serving and empowering women forms a huge part of what apprentesses stands for.”

In the Alberton area, Christina’s main charity project was to provide masks, food and clothes for people in need.

“Covid-19 made it difficult for us to reach out to others, but I still tried my best by hosting a virtual solidarity dance for 21 days and dance classes to help raise funds. I also reached out to my own family and friends to see if I can help with anything during lockdown.”

Christina said through this journey she found her voice and learnt that if you find your voice you can live a limitless life.

“Being a finalist was such an honour and a shock at the same time; nonetheless, the journey has been so inspirational and transformational.”

Christina won the Director’s Choice Award, which is the title for the woman who grew the most and accomplished a lot within the competition.

The grand show was held at the Colosseum Reale in Pretoria, which further allowed a meet-and-greet opportunity with the people in the entertainment industry on the red carpet.
