The EMPD Speed and Drug Enforcement Unit made a number of arrests between November 14 and 15.
This was during their crime-prevention operation which was conducted in areas across the City of Ekurhuleni.
Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said: “On Saturday at 5.25am on the N12 eastbound at the R59 bridge, officers arrested a 47-year-old man in a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan. He clocked 186 km/h instead of 120km/h, stating he was rushing to a funeral.”
Mokheseng said two more male motorists who drove between 167 and 169km/h on the highway, claiming to be late for work and visiting people, were also apprehended.
The nabbed are expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
