Mayberry Park resident writes book about his upbringing

No matter what you’re looking for, every Alberton native will find something that they will resonate with in this book.

Albertonian Sizwe Moyo (22) recently released his debut semi-autobiographical book titled The Velvet South – Coming of Age in Suburban South Africa.

The book details Sizwe’s upbringing in Mayberry Park in Alberton, friendship, relationships with women, addiction and even his challenges with religion.

“Writing this book has been an emotional rollercoaster. Digging deep to allow your closest friends and complete strangers find out your deepest regrets and most sombre memories is not easy,” Moyo said.

“I decided around midway through the process of writing this book to make it semi-autobiographical, and base each chapter on true stories. In that way, I was able to embellish and omit wherever I saw fit while still keeping a degree of honesty and authenticity.”

Sizwe said that the book is short and straight to the point and is aimed at the youth.

“I wanted to write a book that young men and women could relate to. They’ll notice remnants of themselves in this book. It will cause each person who reads it to do some self-reflection and re-evaluate one’s own moral compass,” he added.

The book has received rave reviews from those who have purchased it thus far.

Some have described it as “mainly vulgar but still promotes a good message.” Others have called it “funny, even when it doesn’t intend to be.”

No matter what you’re looking for, every Alberton native will find something that they will resonate with in this book.

This book is pushing the needle and changing the narrative on how books are written and released.
