Springbok Pharmacy positive staff diagnosis holding statement

“The authorities have no right to falsely accuse us of not taking the required precautions or not looking after our staff,” said Kenny Baker.

Springbok Pharmacy has strongly condemned actions and comments by Ekurhuleni MMC for Community Safety Frans Mmoko who alleged the store had failed to notify health authorities when a staff member tested positive for Covid-19.

Furthermore, Springbok Pharmacy has criticised media reports regarding the incident which are one-sided and inaccurate, with no attempts being made to contact the pharmacy for its comment or viewpoint.

Springbok Pharmacy has stated that the MMC and his delegation and media crew had absolutely no authority or right to burst into its store and accuse it of not following health and safety protocols and enforcing closure of the store.

“The authorities have no right to falsely accuse us for not taking the required precautions or not looking after our staff. We believe that there are grounds to proceed on a legal basis and our legal representatives will be getting in touch with MMC and the Ekurhuleni Municipality on Monday,” said Kenny Baker.

Representatives of the Department of Health visited Springbok Pharmacy Thursday afternoon. Springbok Pharmacy confirms that it has always adhered to all sanitation and hygiene measures to ensure a safe environment for staff and customers alike.

Daily protocol ensures that all employees are screened for Covid-19 before entering the store and cleaning, hygiene and sanitation measures are undertaken throughout the day. It has confirmed that while one staff member has been positively diagnosed with Covid-19, the employee in question has already been self-isolating from May 6.

Eighteen close-contact employees were screened and swab tested for Covid-19 virus and were instructed to self-isolate immediately.

All their test results have returned negative. Furthermore, all remaining staff members are being tested.
