WATCH: Future Stars defeat Southside to take the title

The tournament consisted of five teams hailing from different areas, including Orange Farm, Lawley 2, Braamfisher, La Rochelle and Turffontein.

FUTURE Stars FC hosted a successful u-15 football tournament which saw them clinching the title on August 9 at Turffontein Primary School.

The tournament consisted of five teams hailing from different areas, including Orange Farm, Lawley 2, Braamfisher, La Rochelle and Turffontein.

The structure of the tournament was a group stage bout, with the two teams with the most points going on to compete in the final for a trophy, medal and prize money.

First games

Southside and Bude FC were the first to start. Both teams tried their utmost to score the three points, but it wasn’t to be.

The second game was between Pastor FC and the hosts, who slotted one in right from the kick-off.

Pastor tried to regroup, but they suffered a hard blow as the hosts doubled their lead. The pastor pulled one back before going to the dressing room.

The second stanza was electrifying as both teams wanted to get the much-needed three points.

The hosts combined well-connecting one-two passes to trouble Pastor’s defence, which saw them regain their two-goal lead.

Pastor threw men forward and that worked very well as they reduced the deficit. The game ended 4-3 to the hosts.

The third game was between Braamfisher FC and Buda. The Braamfisher side dominated the match from the outset and scored within the first five minutes to take the lead and it wasn’t long before they doubled their tally.

Buda pulled one back but Braamfisher scored the third to put the match beyond their reach, winning 3-1.

In the fourth match Pastor took on Southside, with both teams needing the points to stay alive.

Pastor showed their intent and controlled the ball better in the first half of the game, but Southside thwarted all their attempts to score.

Southside opened the scoring when Pastor’s defence failed to deal with a loose ball.

The second half was about the same as the Southside continued to boss things in the middle of the field.

Southside scored a second and in the last five minutes Pastor scored a consolation goal.

Final

After all the matches it was Future Stars and Southside FC in the final.

It was a nail-biting encounter, with attack after attack.

Both teams showed hunger and tenacity.

But after all the hard work from Southside, the hosts breached Southside’s defence to score the winning goal of the tournament.

Manqobe Mabaso, the organiser, said this tournament was dedicated to all women in sport.

“I’m happy with what took place and hope to hosts similar events,” said Mabaso.
