Comaro Street’s trees are being cut back by City Parks

AFTER an article for the Comaro CHRONICLE (Overgrown trees a worry for motorists) was forwarded to Jenny Moodley, the general manager for stakeholder and public relations at City Parks, a comment was received, but only after the newspaper went to print and the article had appeared online.

“Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo is responsible for the massive tree canopy in the city, while streets, particularly in urban areas, require added maintenance, we allow trees in parks, where possible, to flourish naturally with no or minimum maintenance.
“Road islands though remain a priority and a bulk order is being processed to ensure trees that hinder the movement of traffic are properly pruned back.
“We appeal to residents to please be tolerant as we work towards addressing this backlog.
“Residents may direct street tree concerns to trees@jhbcityparks.com with a ref no that they have secured by calling Joburg Connect on 011 375 5555.”
On the afternoon of February 8, a team of contractors was already out in Comaro Street, cutting back the trees and overgrown foliage from the centre island.

“Now this is what I call great communication and fantastic service delivery,” said a Glenvista resident and motorist who drives up and down Comaro Street every day.

 

“No sooner had I spoken to the news editor of the newspaper, and she, in turn, had contacted City Parks, a team was out cutting back trees and tidying up the island gardens. I’m impressed.”
