Teen Talk and Expo at Constitution Hill a great success

Teen entrepreneurs need to be supported in order to grow.

THE inaugural Teen Talk and Expo took place at Constitution Hill on November 29 with the theme “Unleashing Teen Entrepreneurs”.

This expo was launched by a Southerner, Claudia Noma Makwela, during the National Entrepreneurship month. She said teen years is the best time to start your business. She urges parents to invest and support their talented children to start sustainable business ventures, create jobs and contribute towards growing the South African economy.

Her vision is to reach one million teen entrepreneurs by 2030 and support the government to achieve NDP 2030 goal of creating 11 million jobs in South Africa.

“I believe every child has a special talent. This is an opportunity for me to give back to my country by nurturing our teens. I am a proud mother of three boys, two teens; Ntando and Amahle and seven-year-old Lithemba. I am blessed to be raising teenagers and amazed by their untapped talent and potential. It is my dream to support them to achieve their passions and aspirations.

“Our children need to learn about entrepreneurship from a young age. They need to invest their savings to start their own enterprises. It is my belief that when they are supported and coached to nurture and believe in developing their creative ideas, South Africa can and will unleash a million teen entrepreneurs within a decade from now. Our programmes promote the use of innovation and technology to create sustainable solutions for our schools, homes and communities. It is our mission to provide a platform that helps discover, nurture and grow teen entrepreneurs.”

Hosted by the celebrity Dj Tshepiso “Tshepi” Mabulana from Yfm and Abdul “Jack” Manack, the founder of Leaders of Today, the expo was life-changing as it inspired everyone to beat the fear of failure and procrastination and take action now. Teens, parents, educators, principals and society leaders were encouraged and equipped with powerful, tried and tested methods, tips and tools on how to build strong networks and teams, establish eco-systems around your home, school and community to nurture and grow teens by transforming them to become successful entrepreneurs.

The expo was graced by dynamic speakers and leaders such as humanitarian and dentist Dr Shoukat Waja, the founder of Waja Ka Meno Trust and Dental Surgeries; Cynthia Ighelogbo, BioNike skin care specialist Dischem and Leah Manenzhe, the acting CEO of GEP, to name a few.

Parents were empowered to support and invest in the future of their children. Educators were challenged to teach entrepreneurship from January and coach learners to grow beyond retail and start making their own products. Make every day an entrepreneurship day and not wait for the month of September

BRIGHT FUTURE: One of the speakers, Ntando Makwela from the south. He is the author of the book Dynamic Kid and he was also part of the teenagers who recently built the plane at The Airplane Factory, Tedderfield.
