Swift and vigilant reaction saves the day

4th Dimension again appeals to all residents to keep their doors and security gates closed, even in this heatwave we are experiencing.

A POSSIBLY tragic situation was thwarted on November 15 by the swift response from 4th Dimension officers as well as sterling work by officer Stephen Nell.

Their actions averted a potentially very serious, if not deadly, situation. This is how the drama unfolded.

At about 5.30pm, 4th Dimension received a panic alarm from one of their clients in Kamanassie Street, Brackendowns, Extension Five. The client had interrupted a suspect trying to steal a bicycle from his garage. The suspect fled when the owner raised the alarm.

Multiple officers responded and a lookout was aired for the potential suspect.

RECOVERED: Some of the recovered items in the suspect’s possession.

Officer Nell spotted the suspect in Klipriver Drive. When he approached the suspect the suspect threw down two bags and fled back into the residential area. Nell gave chase but at some point lost the suspect. Other officers, Nell and Brackendowns SAPS conducted searches of houses in the area.

Nell searched a property in Moorat Street. The owner of the house said she had noticed nothing out of order.

However, Nell noticed that the family dog was acting strangely and went to investigate.

He went into the main bedroom, opened the cupboard and saw the suspect who then attempted to stab him. According to Nell, the suspect was extremely aggressive.

It turns out that the suspect had entered the house unnoticed through an open door in his attempt to flee. If Nell had not have been so vigilant and left the house the situation could have escalated when the suspect was alone with the owner.

FOUND: This was also found in the suspect’s possession.

The bags that were discarded on Klipriver Drive contained goods including a drilling machine, but as yet it is unclear where the goods might have been stolen from.

A knife, as well as syringes that contain a suspected narcotic liquid, were recovered and handed over to Brackendowns SAPS, together with the suspect.

4th Dimension again appeals to all residents to keep the doors and security gates closed, even in this heatwave we are experiencing.
