GALLERY: Strong Women of the South honoured

“Value yourself, love yourself and don’t ask for others to love you. You alone can be everything.”

STRONG Women of the South event was recently held at The View Wedding and Events venue in Kibler Park, to honour those women in Johannesburg South who go the extra mile within their community.

The event is held annually by Mondeor SAPS and Community Policing Forum (CPF) Mondeor and has become a highlight on the calendar.

Mondeor Station Commander Colonel JJ Bezhuidenhout spoke about how the recipients of the award have the community at heart and go beyond what they are supposed to do.

SECTOR TWO B: Crime Forum Mondeor.

“We look at you and what you do in our community while you don’t have a chance to look at yourselves,” he said. He thanked all his staff and Michelle Pelser (CPF Mondeor) for everything they did to make the event the special occasion it was.

Guest speaker advocate Pumeza Futshané, who is a wife, mother and chief prosecutor at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, said, “Women are born a teacher by nature, a social worker by nature and a manager by nature. They always put their ideas first but let the men think it’s theirs.

“Why are there not more women in leadership roles? Our country depends on women but there are far fewer women in the corporate world. We need to fight like warriors to get where we need to be.

ALWAYS THERE: Victim Support Unit counsellors.

“Value yourself, love yourself and don’t ask for others to love you. You alone can be everything.”

Certificates were handed out to strong women of the South who included Gail Johnson from Nkosi’s Haven, René Parker for her charity work in Jackson Drift informal settlement, Nadene Grabham from The Door of Hope, Rosie Viljoen from Southgate Mall, Joy Boswell for all her assistance with community projects, and Julie Maule, news editor of the Comaro Chronicle, for always being seen in the community and assisting who, and wherever she can. CELEBRATING WOMEN: Michelle Pelser, Shirley Gqoba, Colonel JJ Bezhuidenhout, Elizabeth Mnguni, Nokulunga Dube and Pumeza Futshané.

“A very big thank you to Elizabeth Mnguni and Shirley Gqoba (Mondeor SAPS) for assisting with the organisation of the event, to Tatum Amaral for the delicious cakes, The View Wedding and Events venue (Ralene and her partners), who have gone the extra mile with the beautiful décor and delicious food.
