Safety tips for Domestic Watch

“Make sure you know how the alarm works and if at any time you feel unsafe press the panic button.”

DOMESTIC workers attended the monthly Domestic Watch meeting on August 14 with guest speaker Brian Adams from Chubb National Security and Fire giving a lesson on safety tips.

He advised domestic workers to keep the doors and gates locked while they are inside the house and to never let a stranger into the house.

“If someone says they are from the municipality, Telkom or a security company, do not let them in. Phone your employee and check whether arrangements were made for them to be there.

“Make sure you know how the alarm works and if at any time you feel unsafe press the panic button. If you go outside to hang the washing or to dispose of the rubbish take a remote panic button with you, carry it around your neck or in your pocket,” Adams said.

He also advised when the domestic workers put out the rubbish bins, they stay alert and keep a lookout for any stranger lurking around.

“Immediately close the gates behind you and always keep garages, laundry rooms and storerooms locked,” Adams added.

The next Mondeor Community Policing Forum Domestic Watch will take place on September 11 at 10am at Sasol Garage Columbine. For more information please phone co-ordinator Michelle Pelser on 084 292 9144.
