Residents voice concerns over the recent fuel price hikes

Most South Africans are not happy with the recent petrol hikes.

Following an increase in the retail price of petrol by 82 cents per litre on Wednesday, the petrol price has increased to above R15 a litre. This is the third time fuel prices have hiked this year and most South Africans are not happy with the development.

This is what readers have to say:

OYAMA BILLY: “I do not understand how our country operates. Our salaries are still very low but petrol and other basic commodities are continuously increasing which is not viable for the majority. It is high time that government intervenes.”
SAMANTHA BRITS: “Everything is already expensive in this country, now they have increased the prices of petrol again. How is one expected to survive under these crazy circumstances? The economic situation is worsening by the day.”
SAMMY KEKANA: “It’s unfortunate because food prices will also increase because of the change in petrol prices yet we as workers continue receiving very little. Government officials do not feel the pinch as much as we do because their petrol is usually paid for through state provisions.”
THOMAS LOURENS: “The whole petrol increase is crazy. Every time petrol prices go down by less than two per cent but after that we get a 100 per cent increase. It is just ridiculous and government should work on this issue to ensure these prices are brought down.”
