ENSURING young children acquire a solid early school foundation is a passion for Sweep (Salvation Warplan Ending Enemy Possession) School in Mondeor. Principal Landi Campher’s motivation behind opening a school came as a prophecy.
She comes from a fashion design background and she studied and lectured in the same field at the University of Johannesburg for 14 years. Landi did not really have much background detail on the specific care and attention needed to run a school.
“The pastor of the church I attended at that time told me that in seven years’ time I would have a school of my own. To me, it all seemed absurd because I had my job and everything in my life never pointed towards a school. I was comfortable in my own space,” she said.
After studying and being ordained as a pastor, Landi finally connected with her destiny to cater for the welfare of young children by opening a nursery school in 2011 and a primary school in 2014.
“As Sweep School, we have done a proclamation that we are sick and tired of evil attacking our children; the world is so full of disaster, calamity and strife,” she said.
“We decided if we can make a difference in one child’s life, then at least we have done something for the kingdom and through the years we have been determined to see the children are raised in a safe environment with Christian values.”
According to Landi, the excellence in Sweep School saw some parents call for an extension of the nursery school into a primary school and after several deliberations and prayers, the school decided to apply for an independent school licence which they received.
However, due to capacity issues, the school concentrates more on the foundation phase of children till Grade Three. They are currently also rebranding their premises.
“We have removed our corporate identity for the nursery school which has changed to Sweep Kids Pre-Primary School with the same logo but different wording, Landi said.
“It helps parents realise children can have a strong foundation stage under one umbrella which will prepare them to excel when they carry on with Grade Four going forward.”
This year the school is celebrating its seventh anniversary since the nursery school opened its doors to the community and the fourth anniversary of its primary school.
