Woman attacked in a supermarket in Glenvista

A Glenvista woman was assaulted in a supermarket in Glenvista after she accidentally bumped into another customer while she was pushing her trolley.

A GLENVISTA woman was assaulted in a supermarket in Glenvista on April 24 after she accidentally bumped into another customer while she was pushing her trolley.

“I was shopping in the supermarket and accidentally bumped into a woman with her trolley and apologised for doing so. The next minute the woman started shouting and screaming at me, then hit me in the face shouting that I’d bumped into her and had not had the decency to say sorry,” said the victim.

A gentleman saw this happening and can be seen on the footage stopping the one woman from assaulting the other. He went on record to say, “As I was walking down the shop aisle I saw a young child looking very upset and then saw a woman shouting at a small elderly lady. The child was standing with the mother who was shouting and screaming at the elderly lady.”

The man was very concerned about what was taking place, but as he walked up to the women, the aggressor just hit the elderly lady directly in the face. The man managed to then jump in between them. He said, “I managed to stop the woman who was assaulting the other woman, who was quite elderly and much smaller than her attacker. I was so shocked and asked the woman how could she possibly attack the older woman, especially with her child there? She wasn’t interested in listening and carried on shouting and screaming, saying ‘you picked on the wrong woman to disrespect’. The victim wanted the manager to detain the attacker until the police were called but the manager said it was a matter between the two customers.

The man further explained, “When we got to the till to pay for our groceries the elderly woman was in the next queue, looking visibly upset and her face was already showing signs of being injured. The attacker was further down the shop in another queue, still saying the victim was in the wrong. It was absolutely terrible,” he told the CHRONICLE, and was really shaken and upset by the whole incident.

According to the woman who was assaulted, she has seen the CCTV footage and it clearly shows her being assaulted.

“I have been to Mondeor Police Station and have opened a docket for assault and have a case number. I am very unhappy about this. I feel the store manager could have intervened as this kind of behaviour is not acceptable. I have been shopping there for over 20 years. From now on I will give the store the support I was given, which was none.”

The supermarket’s head office was asked for comment. “We are investigating the matter in order to establish how it could have been better dealt with and will gladly give our full cooperation with the police investigation,” said The Media Team.
