Many people have shared their ‘scam’ stories with us via email and social media. Many people commented that they were scammed too but not everyone shared where. Here are some comments to help you stay alert and ahead of this.

“This very same couple was seen last week Friday (around the third week of January) at 1.45pm on the road towards the Leratong Hospital in Chamdor. I was on my way back from work heading towards Krugersdorp in the opposite direction. However, they (the couple) were in a white car. I almost stopped but had other prior engagements to which I was running late,” said Sandra-lee Kannemeyer.

  • “I read your article and thought I’d add to this. The couple was scamming people in Randfontein as well,” read one email.
  • “Yip I was caught once too! I think there was a similar scam last week on the on-ramp to Kliprivier Road turning off Columbine!” said Claire Yeun on Facebook.
  • “There’s a couple that operates the same scam on Kliprivier Road. They even have the audacity to sit their two young children on the boot of their car!!! I saw them there three days in a row!” read Terri Pike’s comment.
  • “Wouldn’t swear on it, but I am almost sure this is the same lady or person in the driver’s seat who tried to flag me down in Randhart in Alberton. I just carried on driving, there was bugger all I could do to help,” said Merle Jewill.

Chareen Mota posted that they have been doing this for years with different cars in different areas.

Caron Malamoglou says she is often on Christiaan de Wet Road in Honeydew too.

“Saw this woman twice in one day on Hendrick Potgieter and on Christiaan de Wet Road Roodepoort,” wrote Sheena Kellermann.
