Deepavali hamper preparations underway

Ashrama braces itself for 29th Deepavali grocery hamper drive

THE Sri Adi Shankara Ashrama is dedicated to the propagation of the life and teachings of one of India’s towering contemporary Saints – Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswathi and will be hosting its 29th annual Deepavali grocery hamper drive.

The Ashrama’s new centre in Winchester Hills is a Hindu monastery which is involved in a host of community- based projects to alleviate poverty.

“Ever since the founding of our Ashrama by Sri Swami Shankaranandaji Maharaj, our centre has been intensively involved in a host of community-based activities such as feeding schemes, winter blanket drives, monthly grocery hamper projects, annual Deepavali grocery hamper drives and so on. Our annual Deepavali grocery hamper drive has commenced and we once more seek the support of the Southern Suburbs Community. Members have been great pillars of strength to us since our inception as an institution in 1983,” said Sri Deventhra Nirghan, present chairperson of the centre.

The Ashrama urges the community to support this project by sponsoring hampers to the value of R500 per hamper. The funds could be deposited directly into the Ashrama’s bank account: Nedbank Trade Route Mall, savings account number 2940 039 585, branch code 194 037. The beneficiary is the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Society.

Those making a direct deposit via EFT should email adishankara108@gmail.com to confirm the donation so the treasurer is able to acknowledge the contribution by sending a ‘thank you’ letter. For more information, contact 011 433 2940.
