HARVEST Christian School principal and staff is proud to present its newly designed school badge which now brings a fresh and new look to the school.
According to schools spokesperson, Taryn Clarke, the decision to design a school badge was discussed many years ago as the staff and principal felt the school needed something to combine its ethos, character and core values and to distinguish them from other reputable schools in the area.
Harvest Christian School is a well-established private primary school which has now been open for 26 years in Mulbarton. The school management decided to launch a competition involving students, parents and staff to design a new school badge by taking into account their ethos, core values and motto. All the designs were carefully evaluated and in the end, the decision was made to combine the two most outstanding designs into one meaningful badge.
“We believe that our new badge, filled with symbolism, will once again reaffirm the value of our school to the community,” said Clarke.
The school opened with 21 students and only four staff members. The school continued to grow over the years and established themselves as a permanent place of education in Tehore Street. From inception, the school used the ‘Sheaf of Wheat’ as their letterhead and logo.
Earlier this year, principal Freddie Jordaan and the board felt it was time to develop a proper school badge. It was only after three months that Werner van der Walt’s (an educator) and Kay Stow’s (admin staff member) designs were chosen and combined to form the new badge.
Breakdown of the badge and its symbolism:
- Wheat wreath: Jesus spoke about the ‘harvest’ of people we all need to reap and is symbolic of victory and excellence in one’s life.
- Seven sided heptagon: In the shape of a shield for protection and represents the seven core values of the school.
- Three divisions: This represents the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
- Cross: This represents the price that was paid for our salvation when Jesus died on the cross.
- Crown: Represents the Kingship, Majesty and reign of Christ our King. It is positioned at the top and center of the shield to symbolize the centrality of Christ in the school and in our lives.
- Bible: Word of God which represents the value of scripture. The school is Bible based.
- Scripture verse: Luke 2:52; the guiding verse of the school.
- Dove: Represents the Holy Spirit who is our comforter and inspiration.
- Ewer, basin and water: Represents how Christ washed the feet of the disciples, giving an example of servanthood.
- Brick with date: Represents the year the school was started.
- Brick foundation: The vision is to build firm foundations in each child.
- Ribbon with school motto: represents the motto flying high, declaring to all what the school wants all its students to achieve in life.
