Winchester author, a guest speaker at Jozi Books and Blogs Festival

The Jozi Books and Blogs Festival 2017 celebrates readers and writers.

WINCHESTER HILLS author Jann Weeratunga (54), who is on the Sports and Literature discussion list, was honoured to be a guest speaker at the Jozi Books and Blogs Festival 2017.

The Festival was opened by the Honourable Pravin Gordhan at 10am at the Patidar Hall (SBSM School) in Lenasia on Sunday, July 30.

Described as one of the “power sessions” the discussion on sports and literature was hosted by Bibi Fatima Ameen (Splash In), Dimple Paima Patidar (Wits University) and Naazim Adam (Impala Crescent Primary School). Included on the panel were: Children’s Author Jann Weeratunga (Polly’s Piralympics Series), Abdul Manack, Aslam Khota (author and cricket commentator), Nazli Hamilton (multi-sports editor for SuperSport), Ajit Gandabhay (non-racial sport history project) and Yusuf Garda (author).

NEW ADVENTURES: Jann just released ‘Polly Ya Nae Can Fly’ which is doing well in schools across the province.

Jann has just released two more books, namely How Polly Became a Pirate and Polly Ya Nae Can Fly which is doing well in schools across the province. The books have interactive pages that can be used in Life Orientation lessons in schools or as reading books.

The books address: anti-bullying, racial differences, physical disabilities, animal trafficking, rhino and elephant poaching, global warming, littering, solar and wind energy, gender issues, being different, cheating, listening to adults or others who know better, being scared or frightened, helping others or standing up for a friend, queuing and other manners, as well as the need to work in a team.
