Join the Epic Foundation this Mandela Day

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” – Nelson Mandela.

HELP the Epic Foundation support survivors of rape or abuse this Mandela Day by donating to, and assisting with, the foundation’s Comfort Pack Project.

Spend your 67 minutes on July 18 helping to give back to victims and make a difference. During 2016 the Epic Foundation distributed almost 7 300 of the packs and now they need your assistance and support for 2017. These packs are put together for women, men and children. They are used by victims during the initial reporting phases at hospitals, crisis centres and police stations.

“To you it might just be a bag with items of toiletries but for a survivor at a point where they feel at their lowest, having experienced the worst day of their lives, and are at their most vulnerable, receiving a bag with comfort items has a huge impact on the healing process!” said Alta McMaster from the foundation.

Ways to get involved with the project to give your 67 minutes:

• Put out bins in your offices to collect items needed to fill the bags.

• Arrange a packing day at your office for the items collected (we will provide you with checklists, guidance, etc).

Things you can donate:

Facecloth and soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, body lotion, deodorant, tissues, wet wipes, sanitary towels, bottled water, sweets and chips, colouring-in books and crayons, soft toys, shampoo, hairbrush, hair elastics and clips, lip balm, notebooks and pens, surgical gloves and plasters, underwear for women, men and children (boys and girls).

Alternatively

• Volunteers are welcome to donate content items on the day, or even bags they have filled. All the items listed can be donated, just a few of them, or a few of just one item.

• Financial donations are also welcome.

• Staff will be available at the Epic Foundation office from 9.30am to 3pm on the day for donations to be dropped off and to talk further about Epic’s projects and initiatives. Email the foundation for directions on how to get to the Epic office on info@epicfoundation.org.za or call 082 940 6230.
