The Bag Lady

We booked into our accommodation, San Rock Guest House, and to be honest I could have stayed there for the entire weekend’s duration and never stepped off the property.

A weekend break in Clarens was just what a busy shopper needed and what an amazing getaway it was.

We left on Thursday morning and, of course, what we hadn’t counted on was the taxi strike. Thankfully, the long lines of traffic congestion were going the other way, towards Johannesburg. Four hours later we drove into The Square in Clarens and it was everything – and more – I’d hoped for. Never having visited Clarens before, I had a preconceived picture in my mind, but I most certainly wasn’t disappointed.

Early lunch at The Brewery was great and we enjoyed a Warm Platter for two which was delicious. We booked in at the San Rock Guest House, where I could have stayed for the entire weekend – I honestly did not want to step off the property. “Absolutely stunning” is how I’d describe this beautiful home which features a huge lounge with big comfy couches, a dining room fit for a king, an out-of-this-world kitchen, gorgeous bedrooms, bathrooms with the fluffiest towels, patio with built-in braai overlooking a lovely garden, a ‘to-die-for’ view of

the mountains, and underfloor heating – just to top it off. What else could you wish for?

We did leave the house, of course, and enjoyed many drinks at The Brewery, a superb lunch at the German Restaurant and a ‘to-die-for’ dinner at Clementine’s Restaurant and Bar. We also browsed around many of the quaint shops as well as the interesting art shops and galleries.

All too soon our long weekend came to an end and we were back on the road to good old Joeys! We’ll definitely be back. Clarens is far enough away to feel you are on holiday, but not too far away to dread the drive. If you haven’t been – go because it really is a beautiful little town with lots to see and do. There is plenty of accommodation to choose from. A word of advice though: if you wish to go over a long weekend, be sure to book early because it’s a popular destination.

What’s new?

Pick n Pay have launched a new range, Tiny Tots, which includes shampoo, body wash, baby powder, bum cream, massage oil, lotion, soap, petroleum jelly and aqueous cream. Price wise? Quite good.

Enjoy your week, stay warm and obviously, shop till you drop!
