DJ Vin GrooVin shares his story of success

His biggest career achievement has been to perform on the main stage of Ultra SA, the biggest music festival in the country.

VINCENZO Ladeira (24), otherwise known as DJ Vin GrooVin, shared his story of success – not only in music, but also in his personal life.

Vincenzo resides in Meyersdal, but will soon be living in New Redruth. He started dabbling in music when he was just 16. It all started out as little weekend get-togethers with friends at his house. His music drew his friends’ attention and they would ask him to bring his music to their parties. For his birthday, his parents bought him a speaker set and eventually he DJ’ed at small house parties all over Alberton and surrounding areas nearby.

Whilst studying Marketing at NWU-Vaal, he pushed his music to the side for a while. He did very well to achieve a grade point average of over 90 per cent. Even though Vincenzo loves numbers very much, he soon realised that his true passion lies in music, and therefor stopped studying. He now incorporates his love for numbers into the structure and rhythms of his music.

As the word spread about Vin GrooVin’s groovy DJ talent, clubs started approaching him for headlining opportunities and in June 2011, his professional DJ career officially kicked off. To date, his biggest career achievement has been to perform on the main stage of Ultra SA, the biggest music festival in the country.

Vincenzo’s dream for the future is to compile his own album – it seems as if he will be able to fulfil this dream quite soon, since he is getting great reviews from even the most critical music labels. His biggest dream, however, is to continue making music that makes people happy. With the help of his recently-established company, Blended Entertainment (which entails sound, equipment, lighting and music services for private functions), Vincenzo hopes to reach the hearts of as many music lovers as he can. He is also very in love with and engaged to Melissa Acutt, and hopes to see three children in their future together.

The people who inspire him the most are DJ Fresh, his father (for raising him with the morals and values that have gotten him thus far), his mother and his in-laws (for teaching him that family is everything).

During his spare time, Vincenzo enjoys watching movies and partaking in a round of bowling, but his favourite pastime is going out and socialising. He very much enjoys spending time with his fiancée and enjoys taking her to the zoo, since she dearly loves animals. In fact, Melissa loves all things vulnerable and helps them daily by supporting a non-profit organisation called Community Hours. This organisation recruits and manages volunteers who help various small-time charity groups to assist those who need it the most. Vincenzo is really supportive of his fiancée and helps out as often as he can.

His personal advice to aspiring DJs is to remain humble – always, no matter what. He says that, without the people who support you, you are nothing. He adds that one must always have passion for what one does, because without passion, the fruits of one’s labour just won’t be as sweet.

“I would like to thank all the people for their support and for keeping me humble. Thanks for all your love – without you, I would not be where I am today. Always remember to hold on to your dreams and don’t let anything get you down or discourage you. Life is too short, so do what makes you happy,” he says with a smile.
