Circle of Friends reveal their travel dreams

CIRCLE of Friends women’s group was asked if they each won a million Rand where their dream holiday destination would be.
Sheila Reeves said she’d go to Spain to visit her son, Darryl. “He’s always asking me to come visit and it will be my dream one day to surprise him. I’d definitely fly business class. I love Spanish food, especially paella, and enjoy listening to the Spanish guitar.”
HiIda Theck would choose to visit Vancouver, Canada. “I have a lifelong friend who lives there and we’d have a ball,” she said. “Business class flights, first class travel, the best restaurants – in fact, the best of everything! Surrounded by mountains, Vancouver has fantastic theatres and thriving art galleries. Just catching up with my friend in this beautiful city would be awesome.”
For Laetitia Pretorius a trip to France will be on the cards. “I’d fly to Paris, see all the sights, then to Lourdes to see the miracle waters.”
Susan Simpson would definitely return to the Far East, visiting Bangkok, Thailand and Hong Kong. “Hong Kong mainly for the shopping, then Bangkok to buy some gorgeous silks and Thailand for the beautiful beaches. I’d also like to go to Longshan Temple, in Taipei.”
It’s Zanzibar for Patricia Pheiffer. “Those white beaches with turquoise waters, snorkelling, boat cruises and speed boating! Of course, Freddy Mercury, of Queen fame, was born there and there is amazing architecture. The seafood restaurants sound divine – I’d live on seafood. To top it all, is the fantastic weather, which is best from March to November.”
Sandy Randall would travel to Australia, where her husband, Brian, lived and worked for many years. “We’d travel on the Trans Karoo Train to Cape Town and then board a ship to Freemantle on the west coast of Australia. We’d also visit Perth, the most isolated city in Australia, and next we’d go to Melbourne, the oldest city in Australia, to explore. We’d definitely visit a station farm in the outback. It would be our dream holiday,” she said.
Ireland is Carrie Labuschagne’s destination of choice. “What a trip that would be. To see the green, green hills and the wild coastlines, not to mention the tiny villages and picturesque scenery. I’d also like to see Donegal’s Lackagh Bridge, which is a beautiful Irish stone bridge with reflections at high tide. Dublin will be a must, with its pubs full of music, and George Street for its Victorian architecture, as well as the National Botanic Gardens, with more than 20 000 plants in the gardens and the Victorian greenhouses.”
Tillie Norman’s dream holiday is to Alaska. “I’d fly to the USA and then go to Alaska where I’d spend eight nights and another five nights travelling through the Rocky Mountains. I’d love to visit Juneau to see the famous totem poles, of which there are many. There’s a whole national park full of totem poles. Next, a cruise to see the Hubbard Glacier, the second largest in the world, and then a train journey to Alberta and into the Rockies. What a holiday!”
A trip from Perth to Sydney is for Glynis Macpherson. “We’d board the Indian Pacific Transcontinental Train and along the way visit Kalgoorlie, Cook and the Nullarbor Plain, Adelaide and Broken Hill, arriving in Sydney four days later. The train appeals to us. We’ve travelled on most of the SA railway lines and have loved every moment. Now it’s time to see the country our daughter has set up home in.”
Maureen Lepako yearns to visit Bela Bela (Warmbaths). “I’ve been there once before and would love to go back. I’d also like to travel with my family to Durban by plane to enjoy the beautiful beaches.”
