It’s going too fast – that’s my feeling about this year! I can’t believe Easter is over; hope you all enjoyed a wonderful and blessed time with your family and friends.

What’s next on the social calendar, you may ask? There are two more holidays around the corner, Freedom Day on April 27 and Workers’ Day on May 1, and then the next official celebration is Mother’s Day on May 14.

Easter gifts

Are you creative? I’ve never been that great but decided I’d make little Easter gifts for the table for a lunch I was having on Good Friday. I chose empty egg trays and cut each one out separately, lined them with coloured tissue paper, filled them with tiny chocolate eggs, added a chocolate marshmallow at the side and then wrapped them in coloured tissue paper and tied each one with a ribbon. I was quite pleased with my efforts until my husband asked what I was doing. “We aren’t having any children here on Friday – who are these for?” he said. Thankfully I saw the funny side and had to admit they looked very amateurish but still went ahead and put them out on the table. Needless to say, everyone was very kind and said how cute they looked! Next time I’ll definitely buy small token gifts, which will be a lot less trouble.

Mother’s Day gift ideas

I always think moms are easy to buy for – they love just about everything and appreciate the tiniest of gifts if given with lots of love.

Moms also always seem to need something, whether it be something personal or something for the house or the garden, and ideas are limitless.

I’ve already begun my search for interesting and beautiful gifts and I’m sure I’ll be bringing you some gorgeous ideas over the next few weeks.

For now, though, just look at these spoils. First up … a bottle of Bottega Il Vino Dell’Amore Petalo Pink Manzoni Moscato Rose. Yes, it’s a mouthful. But such a delish one! A delightful, light, sparkling wine in a rose-gold bottle, it has low alcohol levels and is part of the Vino dell’Amore (wine of love) label. How perfect is that! You’ll find it for R495 at the liquor divisions of leading stores including Pick n Pay, Checkers, Spar and Liquor City.

Now … add a bottle of the very, very beautiful Oscar de la Renta Extraordinary Petale. It’s a light, fruity, floral fragrance, and you’ll find it at Dis-Chem for R1 395.

Lastly, include a copy of the delightful About Last Night by Catherine Alliott … a wonderfully romantic romp of a book set in rural Herefordshire and available for around R295 from your favourite bookshop.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
