Easter treats created to help kids with cancer

Michelle Larson (director of Cup Cakes 4 Kids with Cancer) and Dawn Viljoen, also from the initiative, were at the meeting to judge the exquisitely decorated eggs, before they took them to the hospitals. “These eggs are absolutely stunning,” they both added. “The children will adore them”.

WITS South Branch of the SA Cake Decorators Guild decorated 120 white chocolate eggs at their meeting on Saturday, April 8, which they donated, through Cup Cakes 4 Kids with Cancer, to Donald Gordon and Chalotte Maxeke hospitals for children with cancer.

Michelle Larson, director of Cup Cakes 4 Kids with Cancer, and Dawn Viljoen, also from the initiative, were at the meeting to judge the exquisitely decorated eggs, before they took them to the hospitals.

“These eggs are absolutely stunning,” they said. “The children will adore them”.

Members of the guild enthusiastically came dressed in bunny ears or Easter bonnets and set to packing the Easter eggs, after the judging.

“We hope to carry on these projects with the September cupcake drive coming up and we would like to make as many decorative cupcake toppers as we can for Cup Cakes 4 Kids with Cancer, to enable them to reach their goal,” said Eleanor Casey, chairperson of the SA Cake Decorators Guild.

The guild is a non-profit organisation which meets every third Saturday of the month and welcomes all, young and old, who have a love of sharing and learning sugar craft.

GOOD CAUSE: Thank you from Cup Cakes 4 Kids with Cancer.

“We encourage members to enter shows and partake in all the different learning experiences held at different branches countrywide.

“A full programme of workshops and demonstrations are planned for the rest of the year.

“On May 20 we will be offering a workshop on finger flowers and on July 5 we’ll have our Christmas in July workshop. Six tutors will be teaching techniques and sugar work. Space is limited, so booking is essential for these workshops,” added Eleanor.

Meetings are held at St Paul’s United Church, Tehore Street, Mulbarton at 14:00. All welcome. For further information, please contact Eleanor Casey on 083 268 4588 or email: dougharris@telkomsa.ner. Alternatively phone Mary Marques on 082 767 1188 or email marym@wizzit-int.com
