Young tennis player is making waves

"Jordan is not just a brilliant tennis player, but a genuinely respectful, friendly and decent young man."

JORDAN Morais (17), from Alberton, looks set to be the next big thing in South African tennis.

The young man recently returned from Lisbon, Portugal, after taking part in extensive trials, and is set to go back later this year to continue his training and, ultimately, start playing on the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) ITF (International Tennis Federation) circuit in Europe.

A few years ago, when Jordan was about to throw in the towel on tennis, his mother enrolled him for lessons with Etienne de Wet, of the Alberton Tennis Academy, and, in no time, Jordan made a complete turn-around.

“Jordan is the most dedicated and hard-working player I train,” De Wet said.

“He has plenty of natural talent, but what will truly make him a champion is his work ethic, attitude and temperament.”

Jordan is currently also working with coach Rui Claro, giving him an all-round grounding.

“I was always into sports; my entire family is,” said Jordan.

“Tennis, however, is my big passion and my current focus.”

Jordan spends about five hours on training every day, involving tennis practice with his coaches and gym work.

School work is important too, so Jordan is following a home schooling programme in order to accommodate his studies and training.

“Jordan is not just a brilliant tennis player, but a genuinely respectful, friendly and decent young man; everyone likes him,” De Wet said with great pride.
