Get ready for T20 action

Players are ready, from the various franchises, to play in the T20 Challenge

BIG names in domestic regional cricket will be in action when the Cricket South Africa T20 Challenge commences in  November.

Big hitting ex-English Test star Kevin Petersen and West Indian Kieran Pollard, are but two of this format’s popular players who should have cricket fans flocking to support their favourite team.

The CSA T20 Challenge’s programme opens at the Bidvest Wanderers with a double header of fixtures and will continue up to December 16.

South Africa’s six regional professional franchises will compete for the ultimate prize money of R2.7 million. Apart for the winning cheque, the fans are also encouraged to attend the matches around the country to experience in all the drama surrounding this popular format of cricket.

Proteas batting ace AB de Villiers will also join the international and local stars, as he makes his way back after injury. De Villiers will play as soon as he is cleared by the CSA Medical Team, with the rest of the Proteas superstars entering the fray once they return from Australia in early December. All of which promises must-watch cricket for T20 fans.

“We’re ready to proceed full-steam ahead, as we set the stage for another world-class tournament,” said CSA’s Head of Commercial and Marketing, Clive Eksteen.

“Our T20 tournament has always delivered amazing ‘cricket-ainment’ and in-stadium activities. This year’s event will be even better, with all our national players participating during the latter half of the tournament. We want to bring this event to an international level and look forward to our own players competing at a high level against each other.”

With CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat out of the country, working on the new T20 League that will be launched next season, Eksteen explained why CSA had decided not to appoint a title sponsor for this year – as CSA prepares for the new League in 2017.

“As this will be the last time we play our domestic T20 tournament in its current form, we decided not to appoint any title sponsor ahead of the new league we are planning for next year. But we are going to make sure that this year’s event will be an extra special occasion for players and fans. Whether you’re young or old, a cricket lover or a cricket newcomer, come to the stadiums – and let your hair down, put your hands in the air and let loose in support of your favourite team.”

Come and experience the all-out emotion and entertainment at Bidvest Wanderers, of players unleashing huge sixes and fiery deliveries like never before.
