Christmas Cracker boasts young ring prospects

Christmas Cracker book your seats for December 1.

THE Christmas Cracker Box ‘n Dine will be presented by African Ring in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions and Emperors Palace, on Thursday, December 1. Up and coming young prospects handpicked by African Rings promoter Jeff Ellis will be on view for the boxing fraternity.

New kid on the block Rowan Campbell, who is the main sparring partner for Kevin Lerena and trained by Peter Smith, will showcase his talents on the evening.

He has the potential to become one of the best cruiserweights in future in a weight division in which South Africa needs stars. Lerena and Smith speak very highly of Campbell. Don’t miss the opportunity to watch this young exciting boxer.

The popular Johnny Muller returns to the ring when he takes on an unbeaten 7-0-1 Herman Potgieter, who is trained by top trainer Gert Strydom.

Pogieter has moved up above Muller in the South African November rankings, making this a very interesting bout. Muller comes off three losses against top competition. It’s a defining point in his career and he’ll know that he’s up against the Strydom camp on fight night.

The Smith Camp keep producing top boxers and Sean Smith’s prospect, Thulani Mbenge, competes in his first title fight when he takes on Ayanda Mthembu for the ABU welterweight title over 12 rounds. Thulani has axed all opposition by knockouts.

In an earlier bout, Sabastiaan Rothman comes up against Jabulani Makhense, who’s making his debut in the welterweight division. Makhense is a junior All Africa Games medallist.

An old (Johannesburg) Southern boy Grant Messias is back as a trainer and together with Brian Mitchell as manager, looks after debutant Tyler McMutri – also a welterweight.

Then to top up the evening, Harold Volbrecht’s charge Nathan Hammand goes into his second fight, having won his first in the junior middleweight division in grand style.

Book your seats with Jeff Ellis on 078 457 3030.
