FOX Security has compiled a list of tips on how to keep children safe, after the tragic murder of a young girl in Alberton.

  • Children should never walk alone in the streets. Rather walk in groups of two or more.
  • If your child is being picked up by another person make sure that you know that person.
  • If someone offers to pick up your child, make sure to let the teachers know that someone else is picking up your child and make sure to give the person’s information to the teachers.
  • Parents should be able to talk to their children and trust them to be safety-conscious, and the children should be able to talk to their parents if something is bothering them, or if someone is a problem. Always inform family or friends where you are going.
  • Don’t walk in deserted streets or poorly lit areas and use caution in parking areas.
  • Turn and go in the opposite direction of the car if a stranger approaches and offers you a ride. If possible, write down the licence plate and description of the car.
  • Never open the door if you don’t know who it is.
  • Don’t carry large amounts of money.
  • Lock your doors and windows at night.
