The Festival of Lights lights up the sky

MEMBERS of the Gandhi Walk Committee were thrilled to be part of the Aspen Hills Festival of Lights, with Zee TV and JYM Sound and Lighting, held at the Aspen Hills Nature Estate on Friday, October 28.
“This Festival of Lights was truly different and the organisers embraced the idea of going green for this festival – which saw them swap loud banging fireworks for a spectacular laser lights show hosted by LaserX and choreographed by Kayne Harvey. That indeed lit up the night sky and could be seen from most parts of the southern suburbs. “This does set the trend to offer something different and for future Diwali events to consider the same and lean towards a new style option, which is friendlier to our environment,” said Gandhi Walk chairman Amit Parbhucharan.
Parbhucharan added that for residents of Aspen Hills and the many guests who came to join them at this event, it truly felt very festive.
Ultimately over a thousand people were present on the club house grounds for the night.
The Aspen Hills Festival offered something for everyone, with over 30 sales and food stalls, free Wi-Fi, a photo-booth, designer henna artists, make-up consulting, two mocktail and cocktail bars; car displays by BMW and Mercedes-Benz, plus a dedicated play area for children.
The entertainment programme was officially opened by Zee TV Africa CEO Harish Goyal – and compèred by DJ Zuby, who also later rocked the crowd after 21:00 with a beat-bumping open-air Bhangra party.
The entertainment line-up included scintillating stage performances by Maza Academy of Dance, Jazzy Masala, Aspen Hills Hindu Kids, Shivohum – all the way from the East Rand, Desi Motion with Shivani Govender and live singing by Bhavik Jivan and Imraan Aslam.
Event organiser Nivana Naidoo wishes to thank the community of Aspen Hills for their generosity and support in making this inaugural Aspen Hills Festival of Lights such a huge success that also united the community.
“Being the first of its kind in the estate, all residents were very accommodating and understanding and their inclusive celebration in this Hindu festival (Diwali) is appreciated,” Nivana said.
“A special thanks is also extended to all media, sponsors, and the Gandhi Walk committee for their support and being true to the vision of fostering a community in unity.
