Now that the dust has settled after the local government elections last month, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the people of the South for their support in the elections.
Our objective of bringing the ANC below 50 per cent in Johannesburg was achieved. This paved the way for us to be in a position to govern the city so that real change can take place. With mayor Mashaba at the helm we will see our city taken to new heights.
This also means that the South will now receive added attention. Our newly elected councillors have hit the road running after the elections and are under no illusion that they have a tough job on their hands.
We grew substantially in all our wards which indicate that people want change. We retained all DA wards and won an additional ward (ward 125). Although the DA lost ward 124 to the ANC, we lost narrowly. Our new councillors are as follows:
- Ward 23: Sarah Wissler (083 256 3453),
- Ward 54: Sergio dos Santos (082 394 4053),
- Ward 55: Rashieda Landis (083 752 6468),
- Ward 56: Michael Crichton (083 383 6366),
- Ward 57: Faeeza Chame (082 518 4375),
- Ward 124: Tyrell Meyers (082 572 8925)
- Ward 125: Peter Stewart (062 691 2011).
I can assure you that the pressing issues facing the South will be addressed, as the proper administration is put in place by the city.
