Waterstone pupils pack meals to help those in need

Food will be distributed every Friday, over the coming months, at Elethu Themba School.

STOP Hunger SA partnered with the Waterstone College charity society to package non-perishable food items into ‘meal packs’.

Volunteers from the high school packed these non-perishables on August 18, in the school hall, for early childhood development centres and for child-headed homes in the community.

One meal pack serves a total of six people and costs R17.40.

The schools marketing executive, Shandene Hinkley, confirmed that it was their goal to pack at least 2 500 of these meal packs which will in turn feed 15 000 people.

“In order to do this, we needed to raise a minimum or R43 500. We asked our parents for donations of R67 or more (or less) and this helped us reach our goal of raising R43 500 and were able to pack meals to feed 15 000 people,”she said.

Food will be distributed every Friday, over the coming months, at Elethu Themba School, mostly to children from child-headed households.

The school thanks all the parents and learners for their support.
