Exhibition celebrates the country’s sport legacy

From Freedom to Fanfare exhibition launched at FNB Stadium recently.

AFTER staging a handful of successful sporting events, including the World Cups for rugby, cricket and soccer, South Africa now has put together an exhibition to celebrate this great achievement.

In celebration of these events, “From Freedom to Fanfare” is on display for the public and was launched at one of the biggest stadiums, not only in South Africa, but on the African continent, the FNB Stadium.

The launch took place on Tuesday, August 23.

The exhibition includes events since the country’s readmission to international sport, in 1994, and incorporates 13 sports and 29 events.

South Africa and England are the only countries in the world that have staged the three major sporting codes’ World Cups, namely rugby, cricket and soccer.

The exhibition at the FNB Stadium includes events such as CAF, AFCON, international matches in cricket, rugby and soccer, present and past boxing greats and many more interesting features. A timeline has been put together in order for the public to follow the exhibition.

The exhibition, that has been in planning for years, was the brainchild of Leepile Taunyane, an engineer by profession. Sadly, however, he passed away in 2013 and his son, also Leepile Taunyane, concluded the project for his father.

South Africa’s legacy as a sporting nation is sponsored by the Lotto and the exhibition will be open on request for group bookings at the FNB Stadium. Bookings are made at the stadium and the exhibition is ongoing.
